American Standard Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
We install and replace American Standard driveway and paver systems across Austin, with most paver driveway installations running $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage, base condition, and access. If you’re reading this, you’ve probably got a sunken paver, a shifting edge, or a section that washes out every time it rains. The good news: we stock American Standard-compatible pavers and can usually match your existing run without a full tear-out.
Sawyer Remodel Austin is an independent contractor, not affiliated with American Standard. We install their paver lines because they hold up better than most in Central Texas clay, but the part that fails first is almost never the paver itself. It’s the base underneath.
Which American Standard Models This Applies To

American Standard’s driveway-grade pavers come in three main series: the StoneCraft line (tumbled, 2-3/8″ thick), the PermaPave line (industrial, 3-1/8″ thick, rated for vehicle loads), and the Estate Series (oversized 16″x16″ slabs). The compatibility gotcha most Austin homeowners hit: StoneCraft and Estate pavers look interchangeable in photos but are not the same thickness. If you set a StoneCraft paver next to an Estate slab, you’ll have a 3/4″ lip that catches every stroller and lawn mower wheel. Always check the back of the paver for the series stamp before ordering replacements.
For most driveways, we recommend OEM American Standard pavers when you’re patching a visible section. The color lots are consistent, and aftermarket equivalents from big-box stores shift color within two summers of Texas UV exposure. If you’re replacing an entire driveway, that’s when we’ll talk about premium alternates that work with your budget.

Signs Your American Standard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken pavers in the wheel path. This is almost always base failure, not paver failure. Austin’s clay soil expands when wet and shrinks when dry, and if the compacted base wasn’t deep enough, the pavers sink right along with it. You’ll see two troughs exactly where your tires roll.
- Weeds sprouting between joints every two weeks. Polymeric sand has failed. Austin gets enough wind-blown seed load that once the joint sand washes out, you’re fighting a losing battle with a hoe.
- Pavers rocking when you step on them. Edge restraint has popped or the base has eroded underneath. A rocking paver is a cracked paver within a season, especially once the summer heat makes the surface brittle.
- Standing water pooling more than 24 hours after rain. Paver driveways are supposed to drain through the joints. If yours ponds, the base is holding water, which means more base failure is coming.
- Color fading to a chalky grey. American Standard’s sealers last about three to five years in Texas sun, so if your pavers look bleached, the protective sealer is gone and the surface is now absorbing stains and water directly.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A paver driveway installation in Austin runs $7,000 to $18,000 for a typical two-car driveway. Smaller patio or walkway paver jobs start around $3,500. What drives the price: square footage, whether we’re reusing the existing base or digging a new one, paver series (Estate costs more per piece than StoneCraft), and site access. A driveway in Bouldin Creek with a narrow side yard means we move material by hand, not by skid steer, and that labor shows up in the quote.
Every quote from Sawyer Remodel Austin includes parts, labor, base prep, haul-off, and the written price before any work starts. The number we quote is the number you pay. No change orders, no surprise line items.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely reset a single sunken paver: lift it, add a half-inch of paver sand, compact it with a hand tamper, and set the paver back. That’s a Saturday fix. What you should not do is try to regrade a failed base by hand. Compacted limestone base in Austin needs to be mechanically tamped in lifts, and a hand tamper gets you maybe 70% compaction. Six months later, the pavers sink again and now you’ve got two problems: the original failure and the hours you already spent.
If you’re looking at more than four or five failing pavers, or the edges are spreading, call us at (409) 834-4854. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a patch job or a redo. Luca has been reading these failures long enough that he’ll call it out before demo starts.
FAQs

With a properly compacted 4-6 inch base and intact edge restraint, expect 20 to 30 years from the pavers themselves. The base is the variable. Austin’s clay soil means a driveway put on an underbuilt base can show failure in as little as three years. Call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll take a look at yours.
Yes, if the failure is localized and the base under the surrounding pavers is still sound. We’ll match the paver series and color, cut the section clean, recompact the base, and set the new pavers with fresh polymeric sand. If the base has failed across the whole drive, patching just buys you time before the next section drops.
Most residential paver driveway replacements in Austin take three to five working days from demo to final compaction. That includes base removal, new base install, paver setting, joint sand, and compaction. Weather delays happen, but Austin’s dry stretches make most of the year workable.
We stock StoneCraft and PermaPave pavers in the most common Austin colorways on our service trucks. Estate Series we order per job since the color lots are less predictable. If you’re not sure which series you have, text us a photo of the back of a paver and we’ll identify it. Call (409) 834-4854 for a free estimate.
Measure twice, cut once – then we actually build the thing.
