Owens Corning Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Owens Corning-compatible driveway and paver materials across Austin, with typical paver driveway installation running $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage, base prep, and paver style. Most driveway failures announce themselves the same way: a visible crack spreading across the surface, a section that sinks after rain, or pavers that have shifted so far out of alignment they catch your tires when you pull in. If you’re noticing any of that, you’re in the right spot. This page covers what fails, what it costs to fix or replace, and what’s actually worth your money.
One thing up front: Sawyer Remodel Austin is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Owens Corning, but we install and work with their paver and driveway products regularly because they hold up well in Texas heat when the base is done right. The base, by the way, is usually the problem. More on that below.
Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To

Owens Corning’s driveway and paver line splits into two main camps: interlocking concrete pavers and permeable paver systems. The interlocking line includes their standard square-edge and tumbled-edge pavers, typically 60mm thick for residential driveways. The permeable line is thinner at 80mm in most series and is designed around a different base spec, usually an open-graded stone bed rather than compacted road base. That difference matters more than most homeowners expect, and it’s the first thing we check when a driveway starts moving.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha: you can’t swap a 60mm paver into a system originally built for 80mm permeable pavers without redoing the base. The thickness dictates how the load spreads, and mismatching the two creates point-loading that cracks pavers within two or three years. If you’re unsure what you have, flip up a paver near the edge and measure it. Or call us and we’ll measure it for you during a free estimate.
For OEM versus aftermarket, Owens Corning pavers are made in larger production runs with tight color consistency across the pallet. Quality aftermarket equivalents from brands like Belgard or Unilock can match the dimensions, but they will not match the color exactly. If you’re replacing half a driveway after a repair, match the original. If you’re redoing the whole thing, the aftermarket savings can be real. We’ll show you both numbers before you commit.

Signs Your Owens Corning Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Pavers rocking underfoot or under tires. This means the bedding layer has washed out or settled unevenly. It usually starts at the edges and works inward, especially on Austin driveways with any slope to them. One loose paver becomes five within a season if water keeps getting under it.
- Sections sinking, usually in a V shape. That V pattern points to a base failure, not a paver failure. In Austin, most of this comes from expansive clay soil that swells and contracts. The pavers themselves are fine; the ground under them isn’t. We fix the base, not just the surface.
- Cracks running in a straight line across multiple pavers. A straight-line crack usually traces back to the base joint where two pours met or a utility trench that was backfilled poorly. Paver manufacturers get blamed for this, but it’s almost always a prep issue. Owens Corning pavers handled Austin heat well; bad base prep doesn’t forgive anyone.
- Efflorescence, or a white chalky film that won’t wash off. This is salt migration through the paver, and it’s more common in the first year. It’s cosmetic most of the time, but if it reappears after two cleanings, it points to a drainage problem forcing water through the pavers rather than around them.
- Weeds growing between pavers within days of removal. Weeds don’t grow through polymeric sand done right. If they’re coming up that fast, the joint sand failed, which means water is getting in and the pavers are starting to loosen. It seems small until the whole field starts shifting.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Austin, a full paver driveway installation runs $7,000 to $18,000. Sealing an existing paver driveway runs $250 to $700. Most of what we quote falls in the middle of that range, and here’s what moves the number: total square footage, how much old base has to come out, access for equipment, and whether we’re matching an existing pattern or starting clean. A small two-car driveway in Cherry Creek might come in near $8,000. A long driveway with a pad off the garage in Bouldin Creek, where we’ve done a lot of work, climbs past $14,000 fast.
Every quote includes removal of the old pavers and base, new base installation compacted in lifts, the pavers themselves, edge restraint, joint sand, and cleanup. The written price you approve is the price you pay. No change orders sneaking in at invoice time. We back the install with our 365-Day Done Right Promise, and if something shifts or fails within that year, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check whether your pavers are the problem or the base is. Pull a paver near the sagging area and look underneath. If the stone base below is still flat and solid, you may only need re-sanding and compaction. If the base has sunk, cracked, or washed out, that’s a jackhammer-and-rebuild job. That’s the line where DIY usually goes sideways. Resetting a few pavers is honest weekend work. Rebuilding a base on Austin clay without the right compaction equipment usually means redoing it again in two years, and paying twice.
If you’re not sure which side of the line you’re on, call (409) 834-4854. We’ll come out, look at the base, and tell you straight whether it’s a $300 fix or a $9,000 replacement. The estimate is free, and we’ll put the number in writing before anything happens.
FAQs

With a proper base, Owens Corning pavers last 25 to 30 years in Austin, which is about as long as the base will last if it was compacted right the first time. The pavers themselves rarely fail; in our experience, what fails at year 12 or 15 is almost always the base, not the Owens Corning product. If your driveway is failing early, the base was never built for the clay underneath it.
Yes, if the sinking is isolated to one section, we can pull the pavers, re-compact the base, and reset that section for a fraction of a full replacement. What we can’t do is repair a base that was built wrong across the whole driveway. At that point, patching becomes throwing good money after bad, and we’ll tell you so. Call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
Most residential paver driveway replacements in Austin take three to five working days from demo to final compaction. Weather can stretch it, and so can unexpected base conditions once we open it up. We’ll give you a schedule and photo updates before and after, so you know who’s on your property and what’s happening every day.
We work directly with local Owens Corning suppliers in Austin and can get standard interlocking pavers within a few days. Permeable series and specialty colors may take a week or more. Call (409) 834-4854 with the color and style you have, and we’ll match it or show you the closest options.
