IKO Kitchen Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If your IKO-finished kitchen is showing its age, we install IKO-compatible kitchen remodels across Austin for $14,000 – $45,000, and we can usually get a crew out within days, not weeks. Most owners call us after a cabinet hinge gives out, a drawer front cracks, or the finish on their IKO panels starts peeling and they realize the whole kitchen needs more than a patch job. Here’s the honest version: a full IKO kitchen remodel isn’t a one-day fix. It’s a planned project that takes 3 to 8 weeks depending on scope, and the price on paper is the price you pay, because that’s how we run every job under The Relay Standard.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO makes cabinetry and kitchen components in a few distinct lines, and the compatibility issues are real. The most common IKO cabinet lines we see in Austin homes are their standard Shaker series and Euro-flat-panel series. The Shaker line uses a face-frame construction with 5/8″ door fronts, while the Euro line is frameless with full-overlay doors and adjustable concealed hinges. You can’t swap hardware between those two without modifying the boxes, and a lot of homeowners find that out the hard way after ordering the wrong slide length.
Your best move is to check the inside of a drawer box or the back of a door panel for an IKO stamp or sticker with a series code. If the label is gone, measure the door thickness and the overlay, and we can usually match it in the field. We stock common IKO-compatible replacement hardware on our trucks: Blum-style soft-close hinges, 18″ and 22″ full-extension drawer slides, and standard pull sizes. For full cabinet box replacements, we order direct from IKO-compatible suppliers or build to spec with our material partners including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone. Sawyer Remodel Austin is an independent contractor, not affiliated with IKO, so we’ll tell you plainly when an aftermarket part is as good as OEM and when it’s worth paying more for the real thing.

Signs Your IKO Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer slides grinding or catching. This almost always means the ball bearings in the slide have worn out or the nylon roller has cracked. Austin’s dust and dry air accelerate this, and once one slide goes, the drawer starts racking and taking the face with it.
- Door hinges sagging or not closing flush. The screw holes in IKO’s composite backing strip strip out over time, especially on lower cabinet doors that get heavy use. Tightening them is a two-week fix at best if the backing is shot.
- Melamine or laminate peeling at the edges. Texas humidity swings, especially in older Bouldin Creek and Travis Heights homes without central climate control, cause the adhesive layer to fail. Once the edge band peels back, moisture gets in and the panel starts swelling.
- Soft-close mechanisms slamming shut. The damper inside a soft-close hinge is a sealed gas unit. Once that seal fails, it’s done. You can’t refill it, and replacing just the damper isn’t a thing on most IKO hinges, so you replace the hinge assembly.
- Cabinet boxes pulling away from the wall. This one is serious. If you can see daylight behind an upper cabinet or the box rocks when you press on it, the mounting screws have sheared or the wall anchors failed. Do not load those shelves. We see this most often in kitchens where the original install was rushed and the installer skipped studs.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full IKO kitchen remodel in Austin runs $14,000 – $45,000 installed. A smaller kitchen with stock-size IKO boxes and a basic countertop swap lands closer to $9,000 – $20,000. Countertop installation alone runs $2,000 – $6,500 depending on material. Cabinet installation for an IKO-compatible set is $4,000 – $13,000 including tear-out and disposal. Backsplash work is $800 – $2,500. And if you’re adding or rebuilding a kitchen island, that’s $3,000 – $10,000.
Every quote includes the tear-out, haul-away, any wall or plumbing adjustments, the new IKO-compatible cabinets or panels, hardware, labor, and a written line-item price before we start. No change orders, no surprise line items at the end. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the workmanship for a full year: if something we installed isn’t done right, we come back and fix it, and if the same repair fails again, the second visit is free. Lucas Romano reads every plan before demo starts and calls out problems before they become invoice line items, because fixing sloppy work costs everybody money.
DIY or Call Us?
You can swap a drawer slide or a door hinge yourself if you can match the mount pattern and the slide length. That’s a legitimate Saturday job with a screwdriver and a level. Where DIY goes wrong on IKO kitchens is when owners start pulling cabinets off walls, cutting panels to fit, or trying to reface boxes themselves. Cabinet boxes carry real weight, and a dropped upper cabinet doesn’t just dent the countertop, it can hurt someone. If the box is pulling away, if you’re replacing anything structural, or if you want the new work to last past the next Austin humidity swing, call us. We’ll give you a written price and a straight answer. Call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll get you on the schedule for a free estimate.
FAQs

In Austin’s climate, IKO cabinet boxes typically last 15 – 25 years, but hinges and drawer slides usually need replacement by year 10 – 15. The dry air and temperature swings in homes across Hyde Park and Mueller are harder on hardware than the cabinet boxes themselves. Call (409) 834-4854 if you want us to walk your kitchen and tell you what’s actually failing.
Yes, in most cases we can replace hinges, slides, door fronts, drawer boxes, and edge banding without gutting the whole kitchen. If the cabinet boxes are structurally sound, a repair often runs under $4,000. If the boxes are water-damaged or pulling from the wall, replacement is the honest call. We’ll tell you which one you need, with the price on paper before we touch anything.
A full IKO kitchen remodel in Austin takes 3 to 8 weeks depending on scope, custom pieces, and any plumbing or electrical work. A hardware-only repair day takes a few hours. We don’t promise speed for speed’s sake, but we show up when we say we will, with live arrival times and photo updates through the whole job.
We stock common IKO-compatible replacement hardware including Blum-style hinges, full-extension slides in standard lengths, and drawer pulls on our service trucks. For cabinet boxes, panels, and specialty hardware, we order to spec and schedule the install once everything is on site. Call (409) 834-4854 and tell us what you’re looking for, and we’ll check inventory before you wait around.
