Boral Kitchen Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If you have Boral cabinetry or trim in your Austin kitchen and a door, drawer front, or panel has failed, we stock and install Boral-compatible replacement parts, with most kitchen remodeling work in Austin running $14,000 to $45,000 depending on scope. You’ll usually find the problem the same way: a hinge rips out of the particleboard, a door warps from Texas humidity, or a drawer box splits at the corner after years of heavy use. The good news is that isolated Boral component failures rarely require a full kitchen gut-out. We can often match the original profile, fabricate the replacement, and have it painted or finished to disappear into the existing kitchen.
Sawyer Remodel Austin is an independent contractor, not a Boral dealer or affiliate. That matters because we’re not trying to sell you a whole new cabinet line when one door needs replacing. We’re trying to fix the part, match the finish, and get your kitchen working again without charging you for work you don’t need.
Which Boral Models This Applies To

Boral has produced several cabinet and trim lines over the years, and the compatibility question trips up a lot of Austin homeowners. The most common Boral products we see in Austin kitchens are their thermofoil-wrapped cabinet doors, painted MDF panels, and their trim and moulding lines. Thermofoil doors are the ones that peel, and once the vinyl layer separates from the MDF core, there’s no gluing it back. The door needs replacing or re-facing.
To identify what you’ve got, pull a drawer and look inside the box. Boral cabinets typically carry a stamp or sticker on the interior side panel with the series name and sometimes a production date. If the sticker’s gone, take a photo of the door profile from the side and measure the exact width, height, and thickness. A 5-piece door with a recessed center panel is different from a slab door, and the replacement has to match the profile or the kitchen will look patched. If you’re in Round Rock, Cedar Park, or down near Bouldin Creek, send us photos and measurements and we can usually tell you over the phone whether we can match it before we ever roll a truck.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for Boral specifically, we lean toward fabricating replacements from matching MDF or solid wood stock rather than chasing discontinued OEM parts. Boral has changed manufacturing partnerships over the years, and we regularly see homeowners wait six weeks for an OEM door that shows up in the wrong white. A local cabinet shop fabrication is usually faster and lets us match the existing finish on-site. If your cabinets are still under warranty, file that claim first, then call us if it stalls.

Signs Your Boral Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Hinges ripping out of the door or face frame. The screw holes in MDF get wallowed out over time, especially on high-use doors like the one under the sink. Once the screw has no bite, the door sags and won’t close flush. The fix is usually a new door or filling and re-drilling with a threaded insert.
- Thermofoil peeling at the edges or seams. Heat and moisture from dishwashers, ovens, and Austin’s humidity work the vinyl loose from the core. It starts as a bubble, then becomes a flap. Peeled thermofoil can’t be re-adhered, so replacement is the only real fix.
- Drawer boxes splitting at the dovetailed corners. Boral drawer boxes are glued and dovetailed, but years of slamming and overloaded pots and pans will eventually crack the joint. A split drawer will bind on the glides or drop entirely.
- Water damage at the toe kick or sink base. Austin homes with slab foundations tend to trap moisture under the sink cabinet, and that moisture wicks into MDF toe kicks and side panels. Swollen, soft wood at the base is structural, not cosmetic.
- Doors warping along the vertical stiles. MDF and wood both move with humidity swings, and Austin gets plenty of those. A door that’s bowed by an eighth of an inch won’t sit flat against the face frame, and adjusting the hinges won’t fix it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Replacing isolated Boral components in Austin typically runs $200 to $800 per door or drawer front when fabrication and finish-matching are included. That’s the honest, parts-plus-labor range for a single component. If the damage is spread across multiple cabinets, or if you’re replacing enough doors that the kitchen stops looking cohesive, a partial kitchen remodel is the better path, and in Austin that runs $14,000 to $45,000 depending on cabinet count, countertop choices, and whether you’re moving plumbing or electrical.
What drives the price on a part-level fix is finish matching. A factory white gloss door is easy to match. A five-year-old cream thermofoil or a wood-grain laminate that’s been discontinued is another story, and we may need to refinish adjacent doors to keep the kitchen from looking like a patch job. Our written price includes the part, fabrication, finish work, installation, and haul-away. You get that number before we start, and it doesn’t change at the invoice unless you add scope. Every part repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do: photograph the damage, measure the affected part, and look for a series label inside a drawer or on a cabinet interior. Sending us photos and measurements saves you a trip charge and gets you a ballpark number faster.
What goes wrong with DIY: most Boral repairs fail because homeowners order a door that’s close but not exact, then discover the hinge spacing is off by a quarter inch or the profile doesn’t match. That’s a wasted $150 and two weeks of waiting. Replacing a door is not inherently dangerous, but finish matching and hinge alignment are the difference between a kitchen that looks right and a kitchen that looks like someone guessed. If you’re not set up for fine finish work, call us at (409) 834-4854 and we’ll get it matched and hung right the first time. Measure twice, cut once, then we actually build the thing.
FAQs

Boral cabinets in Austin typically last 15 to 25 years, but thermofoil doors and water-exposed sink bases usually fail first, often in the 8 to 12 year range. Austin’s humidity and slab-foundation moisture both shorten the lifespan compared to dryer climates.
Mostly no. Stripped hinge holes can sometimes be fixed with threaded inserts, and minor scratches can be touched up. But peeled thermofoil, warped stiles, and split drawer boxes are replacement jobs, not repairs. Call (409) 834-4854 with photos and we’ll give you a straight answer on which one you’re looking at.
Fabrication and finish matching usually take 2 to 3 weeks, and installation itself is a half-day job for one or two components. If the finish needs custom matching or we’re refinishing adjacent doors, add a few days.
We don’t keep pre-finished Boral doors in stock because the series, size, and finish combinations number in the hundreds. What we do is fabricate to spec locally, which is faster than waiting on discontinued OEM parts and lets us match your existing finish in the shop before install day.
