CGI Windows & Doors: The Austin Owner’s Guide
CGI windows and doors are built for hurricane-force wind and impact, but even the toughest frames wear down in Austin’s heat, humidity, and hail. We stock and install CGI-compatible replacement parts across Austin, with most hardware and weatherstripping swaps running $150 to $600 installed, and full window or door replacements ranging from $4,500 to $15,000 depending on size and series. Same-day and next-day service is available for common failures, and every job includes a written price before we touch a screw.
Most Austin homeowners discover a problem the way you probably did: a crank that suddenly spins without moving the sash, a seal that’s peeling away from the frame, or a door that takes two hands to close after a storm. The good news is that CGI parts are identifiable and replaceable. The bad news is that guessing at the wrong part wastes time and money. This page tells you exactly what to look for.
Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI manufactures impact-rated windows and doors under several product lines, and the replacement part depends on which one you have. The most common in Austin homes are the Estate Collection, Sentinel Series, and Targa Series for windows, and CGI sliding glass doors or French doors for entry and patio access. Each series uses slightly different hardware profiles, so a crank assembly from an Estate window will not fit a Sentinel window without modification.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: CGI stamps a product identification label on the inside edge of the window sash or on the door hinge side. It lists the model number, glass type, and manufacturing date. If that label is missing or faded, take a photo of the window from the inside with the sash open and measure the visible glass width and height to the nearest 1/8 inch. We can often match the part from those numbers alone.
When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, we’re straight with you. CGI’s OEM hardware is built to Miami-Dade impact standards and carries the full manufacturer warranty. Quality aftermarket parts exist, but for anything involving the locking mechanism, hinge system, or impact-rated frame, we recommend OEM. For weatherstripping, rollers, and cosmetic trim, aftermarket options are often just as good and cost 20 to 40 percent less. We’ll show you both and let you decide.

Signs Your CGI Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The crank turns but the window doesn’t move. The gear teeth inside the crank operator have stripped, usually after years of pushing against Austin’s dust and pollen buildup. The operator needs replacement, not lubrication.
- You feel a draft even when the window is fully closed. The weatherstripping has compressed or the sash has settled out of square. This is common after Texas temperature swings cause the frame to expand and contract hundreds of times a year.
- The door drags or scrapes against the threshold. Rollers wear flat on one side, especially on heavy CGI impact doors. The door still closes, but the weight is now grinding the track, and eventually the track fails too.
- The locking points don’t line up or the lock feels loose. Multi-point locks rely on precise alignment. Once the door sags even a few millimeters, the locking pins miss their keepers and your security is compromised.
- The window won’t stay open without a prop. The balance system, either a spiral or block-and-tackle setup depending on your CGI series, has lost tension. This is a repair, not a replacement, and it’s one we handle on the first visit most of the time.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what CGI window and door repair realistically costs in Austin right now:
- Crank operator replacement: $150 to $350 installed, depending on whether it’s a single or tandem operator.
- Weatherstripping replacement: $100 to $300 per window or door, including adhesive removal and surface prep.
- Roller replacement on a CGI sliding door: $200 to $500, including track cleaning and realignment.
- Balance system repair: $150 to $400 per sash, depending on the series and balance type.
- Multi-point lock replacement: $300 to $700, including adjustment of all locking points.
- Full CGI window replacement: $4,500 to $15,000 per opening, driven by glass package, frame size, and impact rating.
Every quote includes parts, labor, disposal of the old hardware, and a written workmanship warranty that covers the install for a full year under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the part fails because we installed it wrong, we fix it free. If the manufacturer’s part itself fails, we handle the warranty claim for you. The price you approve is the price you pay, no change orders.
DIY or Call Us?
Some CGI fixes are safe to handle on a Saturday. Cleaning the track, tightening a loose handle screw, or replacing a torn piece of weatherstripping are all fair game. But any repair that involves the balance system, spring tension, or multi-point lock mechanism is not the place to learn. These components are under load. A window sash can weigh 40 to 80 pounds, and when a balance lets go, that weight comes down fast. We’ve repaired enough DIY attempts in Bouldin Creek and Hyde Park to know it costs less to call first.
If you’re not sure which category your problem falls into, call us at (409) 834-4854 and describe what’s happening. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s safe to attempt, and if not, we’ll get someone out to you. There’s no charge for the opinion.
FAQs

CGI impact windows are built for a 20 to 30 year service life, but Austin’s heat and UV exposure typically shorten the hardware lifespan to 8 to 12 years for cranks, balances, and weatherstripping. The glass and frame will outlast the moving parts almost every time.
Yes, and we do it often. If the frame is square and the glass is intact, the problem is almost always hardware, which we replace for a few hundred dollars instead of several thousand. We’ll always tell you when repair is the better call, even though replacement costs more.
Most hardware replacements, including cranks, balances, weatherstripping, and rollers, are done in 60 to 90 minutes per opening. Full window or door replacement is usually a one-day job for a single opening, with cleanup included before we leave.
We stock the most common CGI hardware on our trucks: crank operators, weatherstripping sets, rollers, and balance systems for the Estate and Sentinel lines. Less common parts, especially for the Targa Series or older discontinued models, may take 3 to 5 business days to source. We’ll tell you the timeline before you approve any work.
If the part we installed fails within a year, we come back free under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s a manufacturer defect, we handle the warranty process with CGI so you’re not stuck making phone calls.
We also stock compatible hardware for KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone countertops, and other brands our clients already have in their homes. One truck, one call, done right.
Call (409) 834-4854 for a free estimate on your CGI window or door repair. We’ll give you a written price before any work starts, and you’ll know exactly who is coming to your door and when. No surprises, no chasing.
