ViewLux Kitchen Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide
A full ViewLux kitchen remodel in Austin typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, and we stock the common replacement hardware, hinges, and drawer slides ViewLux cabinetry depends on. Most calls start the same way: a cabinet door won’t close square, a drawer grinds on its track, or a hinge tore out of the frame. If that sounds like your week, here’s what to expect and what it costs to make it right.
ViewLux is a cabinet and kitchen line we see regularly in Austin homes, particularly in newer builds and flips around Bouldin Creek, Mueller, and East Austin. The hardware is generally solid, but the soft-close mechanisms and hinge plates take a beating in our humidity swings, and once one fails, its neighbors usually aren’t far behind.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux cabinetry uses a fairly consistent hardware platform across most of its line, which helps. The soft-close hinges are typically a 35mm cup, full-overlay, clip-on style. The drawer slides are most often a 3/4 extension, side-mount, epoxy-coated steel. You’ll find the same basic parts whether you’re dealing with a ViewLux shaker door, a slab front, or a thermofoil finish. The compatibility gotcha is the hinge plate height: ViewLux has used both 0mm and 9mm plate heights depending on the cabinet’s face frame, and the wrong plate throws the door out of alignment even if the hinge itself is correct. If you can’t tell from looking, take a photo of the old hinge before removing it (or better yet, leave it in place until we see it).
On OEM versus aftermarket: ViewLux hinges are largely rebranded versions of hardware you can buy from major manufacturers like Blum or Grass, so a quality aftermarket equivalent is often identical at half the cost. We’ll always price both options and let you decide. If your cabinets are under a builder warranty, though, stick with OEM so the warranty stays intact. And while we’re at it: we’re an independent Austin remodeling contractor, not a ViewLux dealer or affiliate. We just happen to know their hardware well because we’ve fixed enough of it.

Signs Your ViewLux Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Soft-close hinges stop catching. The little hydraulic piston inside the hinge wears out or leaks, so the door slams instead of gliding shut. In Austin’s summer heat, the internal grease thins and the failure accelerates.
- Doors hang crooked or rub the frame. The hinge plate screws have loosened, or the plate itself has bent. Once a door sags, every open-and-close stress concentrates on the remaining screws, and the holes wallow out.
- Drawer slides grind or stick mid-pull. The epoxy coating on the slide wears through, exposing steel that rusts in our humidity. Central AC helps, but garages and unconditioned kitchens get the worst of it.
- Drawer front separates from the box. The plastic or pressed-wood rear bracket on the drawer front cracks, and the face pulls forward. This is a common failure on ViewLux drawers after five to seven years of regular use.
- Thermofoil peeling at edges or seams. Steam from boiling pots and our dramatic temperature swings break the adhesive bond, especially near the dishwasher or range. Once peeling starts, it doesn’t stop.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the honest math for Austin. A full kitchen remodel with ViewLux-compatible cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, and installation runs $14,000 to $45,000 depending on kitchen size, material choices, and whether you’re moving plumbing or electric. Here’s how the line items break out:
- Small kitchen remodel: $9,000 – $20,000
- Cabinet installation only: $4,000 – $13,000
- Countertop installation (Cambria, Silestone, or Caesarstone): $2,000 – $6,500
- Backsplash installation: $800 – $2,500
- Kitchen island installation: $3,000 – $10,000
If it’s just failed hardware on existing ViewLux cabinets, the number is much smaller: most hinge or slide replacements land in the $200 to $600 range including parts and labor, depending on how many units are done. Every job gets a written price before we start, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise means if something we installed fails within a year, we come back and fix it. No invoice gymnastics, no change order surprises.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a soft-close hinge or drawer slide is a manageable weekend job if you have the right part and a screwdriver. The risk isn’t safety here, it’s fitment: ordering the wrong hinge plate height or slide length turns a $40 fix into a $400 cabinet repair when the misalignment chews up the door edge. If the cabinet frame or drawer box itself is cracked or the hinge screw holes are stripped, stop. Driving larger screws into particleboard just craters the hole wider. That’s the point where a repair turns into a replacement, and it’s cheaper for us to do it right the first time. If you’re in the Bouldin Creek area or anywhere else in Austin, call us at (409) 834-4854 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a DIY part or a job for the truck.
FAQs

Expect 15 to 20 years of decent life from ViewLux cabinet boxes in Austin, with hardware (hinges, slides, drawer brackets) needing replacement around year six or seven. The soft-close mechanisms are always the first thing to go, even when the cabinet shells are still solid.
Sometimes. Bent hinge plates can be reshaped, loose screws can be re-anchored with proper fillers, and drawer slides can be lubricated or cleaned. But soft-close pistons are sealed units; once they leak, there’s no fixing them. We’ll tell you straight which parts are worth repairing and which are scrap.
A standard kitchen remodel runs two to five weeks depending on scope. A hardware-only ViewLux repair job is a half-day, often same-day if we’ve got the right hinges and slides on the truck.
We keep common 35mm soft-close hinges, 9mm hinge plates, and 3/4 extension drawer slides in stock. If you need something less common, we can usually source it within a few days. Call (409) 834-4854 and tell us what’s on the hinge, and we’ll have a price for you before we roll out.
