Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide
Ameristar kitchen remodeling in Austin typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 for a full gut-and-rebuild, with smaller scopes like cabinet-only work landing closer to $9,000 to $20,000. Most owners call us after living with a failed layout or dead cabinets for years, usually discovering the real problem when a drawer front falls off in their hand or a hinge tears out of a water-swollen face frame. The third time you slam a drawer and the track bends, you’re not fixing a drawer anymore. You’re looking at a kitchen system that’s reached the end of its useful life, and in Austin’s humidity swings, that life is shorter than you’d expect. Here’s what the amperage of that decision looks like, whether you’re replacing components or gutting the whole thing.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar ran several kitchen cabinet and component lines over the years, and the compatibility gotcha most owners miss is this: Ameristar changed its hinge boring pattern between generations. Older Ameristar cabinets used a 35mm cup bore spaced at 3 inches on center from the door edge. The newer series shifted to a 42mm overlay with a different clip plate. If you order a replacement door or hinge for the wrong generation, the reveal is off by a quarter inch and every door in the row looks drunk. You’ll find the series stamp on the inside of a drawer box, usually a two-letter code followed by four digits, like “AR-2214” or “KC-0877.” If the sticker is gone, pull a hinge and measure the cup bore with a caliper. That measurement tells us more than the brand name ever will.
We also see a lot of Ameristar kitchens in Austin homes that were part of 1990s and early 2000s production builds, particularly in the Bouldin Creek neighborhood and older sections of Rosedale. Those cabinets are face-frame Ameristar units with particleboard boxes. The doors hold up. The boxes swell and sag. When you’re deciding between OEM Ameristar parts and quality aftermarket equivalents, the honest answer is that aftermarket hardware has caught up and usually costs 30 to 40 percent less, but the door profile won’t match exactly. We stock both paths on the truck and we’ll show you the difference before you spend a dime.
One more thing worth knowing: Ameristar cabinet installation was never exclusive to any one countertop or appliance line. If you bought a home with an Ameristar kitchen, you can swap components without touching the Cambria, Silestone, or KraftMaid pieces around it. We carry parts compatibility across all of those brands as a matter of course.

Signs Your Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer slides that grind, catch, or drop on one side. The epoxy-coated track has worn through to bare metal, usually because the particleboard drawer side has swollen and pinched the rail. Once the bore holes wallow out, the slide keeps loosening no matter how many times you tighten it.
- Doors that won’t stay closed or swing open on their own. Austin’s seasonal humidity cycles warp face frames and change the door gap. The self-closing hinge spring loses tension against that warp, and suddenly a door that fit fine in February is popping open in August.
- Visible swelling or dark lines at the bottom of the cabinet boxes. This is water damage from sink drips or dishwasher steam, and particleboard doesn’t recover from it. The box is delaminating, and no door replacement fixes the fact that the frame is losing structural integrity.
- Countertops that have dropped or pulled away from the wall. The Ameristar cabinet run underneath has settled or rotted at the back rail, and the stone or laminate above is now unsupported along the rear edge. You’ll see a growing gap at the backsplash, and caulk won’t hide it for long.
- Hinge screws that spin freely in the door or frame. The screw holes have stripped out of the particleboard. Toothpicks and wood glue buy you a month. A proper fix is a drilled-and-plugged repair or a new door, and if a third of the kitchen is at that point, patching stops making sense.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Austin, plan on $14,000 to $45,000 for a full Ameristar kitchen remodel. That range covers demolition of the old run, haul-away, new cabinet boxes and doors, hardware, countertops, sink and faucet, and install labor. A small Ameristar kitchen in a condo or older bungalow lands at $9,000 to $20,000 when we’re replacing cabinets and counters without moving plumbing. Cabinet-only replacements run $4,000 to $13,000, and if all you need is backsplash and countertops over a sound Ameristar base, you’re at $2,000 to $6,500 plus $800 to $2,500 for the tile work. Every quote we give in Austin is a written line-item price before demo starts. If the drawer boxes are still straight and the only casualties are door fronts and hardware, we’ll tell you that. We won’t sell you a gut when a component swap does the job, and a component swap when a gut is overdue doesn’t do anybody any favors either. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, which means for a full year after we close out, if something we installed fails, we’re back to fix it.
DIY or Call Us?
If a hinge is loose, tightening it is fine. Adjusting a door reveal with a Phillips screwdriver is fine. Swapping a drawer pull is fine. But once you’re pulling cabinet boxes off the wall or trying to shim a run that’s out of level, that’s where DIY hours start stacking up and the finished result shows every one of them. Ameristar face-frame cabinets are aggressively attached and shimmed during original install, and yanking one without a plan usually destroys the drywall behind it. We use a track saw for clean cuts and we bring a laser level so the replacement run doesn’t follow the old mistakes. Luca Romano has been reading floor plans fast and calling out problems before demo for two decades, and the crew knows what lives inside an Austin wall before the first box comes down. FAQs

In Austin’s climate, particleboard Ameristar boxes last 15 to 25 years before humidity and sink-area moisture start visibly breaking them down; solid wood doors on the same cabinets often outlast the boxes by another decade. Call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll tell you honestly which side of that line your kitchen is on.
Yes, if the boxes are sound, we can replace doors, hinges, drawer slides, and face frames without touching the rest of the run, and that repair path costs a fraction of a full remodel. Call (409) 834-4854 for a written price before any work starts.
A full Ameristar kitchen remodel in Austin typically takes 3 to 6 weeks from the first cut to final walkthrough, depending on countertop fabrication lead times and whether we’re moving plumbing or electrical. We’ll give you a schedule in writing before demo starts, not a vague “we’ll be done when we’re done.” Call (409) 834-4854 to get your project on the calendar.
We keep common Ameristar-compatible hinges, drawer slides, and mounting hardware on hand, plus we can match door profiles through our cabinet suppliers, and we’ll show you OEM versus aftermarket options before you commit. Call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll confirm what’s in stock for your series.
