Cambridge Pavers Home Additions & ADU: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Austin and want Cambridge Pavers as part of the hardscape, the installed price typically lands between $45,000 and $130,000 depending on square footage, foundation work, and how much paver surface you’re incorporating. We stock and install Cambridge Pavers-compatible additions and ADUs, and we can usually get your project quoted within days, not weeks. Most Austin homeowners discover they need this service when their existing paver patio or walkway starts failing at the same time they’re planning an addition, or when the city requires paver hardscape as part of an ADU permit package.
Here’s the thing about Cambridge Pavers specifically: they’re a premium paver, and they hold up differently than the cheap big-box pavers in Central Texas heat. Austin’s clay soil expands and contracts hard enough to crack a foundation, which means your paver base prep matters more than the pavers themselves. We’ll get into that below.
Which Cambridge Pavers Models This Applies To

Cambridge Pavers makes several lines that work for Austin additions and ADUs, but the two we spec most often are the Ledgestone and Maytrx series. Ledgestone gives you that irregular, quarried look with three-piece and four-piece modular sizing. Maytrx is a cleaner, more uniform paver that reads more contemporary, which fits a lot of the modern ADUs going up in Bouldin Creek and Zilker.
The compatibility gotcha most people miss: Cambridge Pavers are manufactured in specific modular dimensions that don’t mix with other brands. If you have a partial Cambridge patio and you’re extending it, a different manufacturer’s paver will be off by enough that your seams will wander. You’ll see it every time you walk out the back door. We match Cambridge-to-Cambridge when we extend or repair.
For OEM versus aftermarket: Cambridge Pavers doesn’t really have an “aftermarket” equivalent the way a faucet does. What you’re choosing between is Cambridge direct versus a competitor paver that looks similar. In our experience, the competitor lookalikes fade faster in Austin’s UV. Cambridge runs their color pigments through the full paver body, not just a surface coat. That matters when a decade of Texas sun is hitting it. We spec Cambridge when the budget allows, and we tell you upfront if a cheaper paver is going to cost you more in replacement down the line.
Sawyer Remodel Austin is an independent general contractor. We’re not affiliated with Cambridge Pavers, but we’ve installed enough of their product to know exactly how it behaves on Travis County clay.

Signs Your Cambridge Pavers Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Paver sinking or heaving at the corners of the addition. This is almost always a base prep failure, not a paver failure. Austin’s clay soil swells when wet and shrinks when dry, and if the base wasn’t compacted in lifts with the right aggregate, the pavers move. We see this constantly on additions built before 2010.
- Water pooling against the addition’s foundation. If your pavers pitch toward the house instead of away, you’re channeling water into your slab or stem wall. In Austin’s flash-flood rain events, that water finds a way in. This needs regrading, not just paver replacement.
- Efflorescence that won’t brush off. A white, chalky residue means moisture is moving through the paver and depositing salts on the surface. A little is normal in the first year. If it comes back after cleaning, you have a drainage problem underneath.
- Paver edges chipping where the addition’s door swings over them. This is a fit issue. The pavers were cut too tight to the threshold, and every door swing is chewing at the edge. The fix is pulling that row and recutting with proper clearance.
- Joint sand washing out after every rain. If you’re sweeping sand back into the joints more than once or twice a year, your edge restraint is failing. The pavers are drifting, and eventually they’ll start clicking underfoot. That’s the sound of a paver that’s about to crack.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Austin, a full home addition with Cambridge Pavers hardscape runs $45,000 to $130,000. For an ADU with paver work, the range is $90,000 to $220,000 depending on whether it’s attached, detached, and how much site work your lot demands. A standalone Cambridge paver patio or walkway replacement is $3,500 to $11,000.
What drives the addition and ADU range:
- Foundation type: pier-and-beam costs less than slab-on-grade, but Austin’s soil sometimes dictates which one works.
- Paver square footage: a 200-square-foot paver patio is a different line item than 1,200 square feet wrapping an ADU.
- Demo and haul-off: if your existing patio or walkway has to come out first, that’s labor and dump fees.
- Permits and inspections: the City of Austin requires permits for additions and ADUs, and the fee schedule moves with valuation. We pull permits on every job and the cost is line-itemed in your written quote.
Every quote we write includes parts, labor, base prep, joint sand, and haul-off. No change orders unless you ask for something new. The price on the invoice is the price you approved.
DIY or Call Us?
Paver work is one of the few parts of an addition or ADU that a handy homeowner can partially tackle, but the failure point is always the base prep. You can lay pavers on a weekend. You cannot compact 6 inches of aggregate properly without a plate compactor, and you cannot fix a paver base that’s failing underneath a new addition without pulling up the surface first.
If you’re just replacing a single cracked paver, that’s a weekend job. If your pavers are sinking, heaving, or channeling water toward your foundation, that’s a structural fix. The danger isn’t a spring or a wire, it’s water and time. Every season of Austin rain that runs toward your foundation is another season of damage you can’t see yet. We’d rather you call us at (409) 834-4854 before the paver problem becomes a foundation problem, because the foundation problem costs ten times more and takes three times as long.
FAQs

Cambridge Pavers typically last 25 to 40 years in Austin when the base is prepped correctly and the joints are maintained. The pavers themselves won’t fail, but Austin’s clay soil will shift a poor base within 5 to 7 years, and that’s what shortens the lifespan. Call (409) 834-4854 if you want us to look at your existing base before you invest in new pavers.
Yes, in many cases we can pull the affected section, recompact the base, and relay the original pavers. Cambridge Pavers hold up well enough that the pavers are usually still good, it’s the sub-base that failed. We’ll match the existing pattern and the repair blends in. Call us for a free estimate and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a patch job or a full relay.
An ADU typically takes 4 to 7 months from permit to final inspection in Austin. A room addition runs 3 to 5 months. Paver hardscape is usually the last thing done and takes 1 to 2 weeks on its own. We give you a schedule at the start and photo updates as the job moves, so you’re never guessing what’s happening on your own property.
We order Cambridge Pavers per job, matched to your existing color and series. That way you’re not paying for us to warehouse product, and you’re getting fresh pavers from the same lot. If you need a few replacement pavers for an existing patio, we can source those quickly through our supplier. Call (409) 834-4854 with a photo of your existing pavers and we’ll identify the line for you.
