Quikrete Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
Quikrete driveway and paver products installed in Austin typically run $7,000 – $18,000 for a full paver driveway, $4,500 – $12,000 for poured concrete, or $250 – $700 for resealing, and we can match most Quikrete mixes and paver lines with next-day material pickup at our Austin supplier. Most homeowners call us after they spot the telltale signs: a paver that’s sunk two inches below its neighbors, a slab edge that’s spalled off in sheets, or a joint that’s crumbled into sand after one too many Texas freeze-thaw cycles. We’re an independent Austin contractor, not a Quikrete dealer, which means we tell you straight what’s worth repairing and what’s past saving before you spend another dollar on bags of mix.
Which Quikrete Models This Applies To
We work with the full Quikrete line that shows up on Austin driveways and patios: their standard 5000 PSI concrete mix, the Crack-Resistant blend, the Walkmaker paver molds, and the pre-cast paver stones sold through big-box stores across Central Texas. The compatibility gotcha most owners miss is PSI rating. A driveway in Austin needs 4000 PSI minimum, and Quikrete’s standard red bag tops out around 4000, which is fine for a patio but marginal for a two-car driveway that sees full sun and the occasional delivery truck. We spec their 5000 PSI mix for any load-bearing surface here. Identifying what you have is simple: check the bag or paver stamp for the PSI number, and on pavers measure the thickness. Quikrete’s 2-3/8″ thick pavers are pedestrian-rated. Driveway pavers need to be 3-1/8″ minimum, and most Austin installers use a 60mm paver for anything that’ll hold a vehicle. We stock both on our trucks for the common repair calls in Bouldin Creek, Mueller, and Hyde Park.

Signs Your Quikrete Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sinking pavers or a settling slab edge. Austin’s clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and if the base layer wasn’t compacted properly, you’ll see a paver field that looks like rolling waves. The fix is pulling the section, recompacting the base, and reinstalling, not just shimming the low spots.
- Hairline cracks that widen after every freeze. Concrete absorbs water, and when Austin drops below freezing overnight, that water expands. Quikrete’s crack-resistant mix helps, but any slab without proper control joints will crack. Once cracks pass 1/8″ wide, water gets under the slab and accelerates the failure.
- Spalling at the edges or surface. If your driveway looks like it’s peeling in thin sheets, that’s a surface mix issue or salt exposure. De-icing salts, even the pet-safe kind, pull moisture into the concrete surface and pop it off. We see this most on driveways installed with standard bagged mix instead of an air-entrained exterior mix.
- Joint sand washing out between pavers. Austin’s downpours move a lot of water fast. If joint sand is running into your lawn every time it rains, the pavers will start shifting and chipping at the edges. Polymeric sand needs replacing roughly every 5 – 7 years in our climate, sooner if your driveway has a steep grade.
- Efflorescence that keeps coming back. That white, chalky film on your Quikrete pavers means water is moving through the paver and bringing minerals to the surface. Sealing helps, but if the base drainage wasn’t sloped right, the problem returns every spring.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Austin, expect to pay $7,000 – $18,000 for a full paver driveway replacement, $4,500 – $12,000 for a concrete driveway, and $3,500 – $11,000 for a paver patio. What drives the spread: the size of the job, how much of the old base can be salvaged, and whether you’re matching existing Quikrete colors or starting fresh with a new paver style. Every quote we write includes parts, labor, base material, haul-away, and a written price before any work starts. No change orders, no surprise line items. Our workmanship is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a paver settles or a control joint opens up in the first year, we come back and make it right, in writing, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a single paver or repacking joint sand between Quikrete pavers is something a patient homeowner can handle on a Saturday, if they’re willing to rent a plate compactor and cut pavers with a masonry blade. But once you’re looking at a sinking section of driveway, remove the base, get a new base compacted to spec, or try to fix a cracked slab by pouring over it, that’s where DIY gets expensive, because you’ll be doing it again in two years. And if your issue involves cutting pavers around a gas line or a water meter, don’t touch it. Austin Utility locate services mark lines free, but cutting near an unmarked gas line is how people get hurt. Most of the jobs we take over from DIY attempts started as a weekend project and ended as a full redo. If you’d rather have it done once, call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll give you a written number before we pick up a single tool.
FAQs

A properly installed Quikrete paver driveway in Austin lasts 20 – 25 years, while a concrete slab driveway lasts 15 – 20 years depending on drainage and how much salt hits it each winter. The base layer matters more than the product itself. Get the base right, and the surface lasts. Call (409) 834-4854 if you want us to inspect what you’ve got and tell you how many years are left in it, free of charge.
Yes, if the crack is under 1/8″ wide and the slab hasn’t shifted, we can route and seal it, or patch with a Quikrete-compatible resurfacing compound for $250 – $700 depending on the area. But if the slab has settled or the cracks are structural, patching it is throwing money away. We’ll tell you which camp you’re in before you spend anything.
A standard Austin driveway replacement takes 2 – 4 days: one day for demo and base prep, one day for the pour or paver install, and a day for curing or joint sand and compacting. Weather is the wildcard, but central Texas has enough dry stretches that we rarely lose more than a day to rain. We’ll put the timeline in your written quote, and we hit it. Call (409) 834-4854 for a free estimate and we’ll map out exactly when we’d start.
We stock the common Quikrete paver sizes and the 5000 PSI and crack-resistant concrete mixes on our trucks, so most small repairs in Austin are one trip, not three. For full driveways we pull materials same-week from our local supplier, and we’ll show you the material invoice before we place the order. If we need to order a specific paver color or size, we’ll tell you the lead time upfront and keep you in the loop with photo updates through The Relay Visibility Guarantee.
If your Quikrete driveway or paver patio in Austin is failing and you want a straight answer and a written price, call (409) 834-4854. We’ll send someone out, look at what you’ve got, and tell you exactly what it’ll cost to fix it right the first time. Measure twice, cut once, then we actually build the thing.
