ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide

ActiveYards driveway and paver components in Austin typically run $7,000 to $18,000 fully installed for a new paver driveway, while spot replacements of failed sections or individual pavers usually land between $800 and $3,500 depending on square footage and substrate condition. Most homeowners discover a problem the way you just did: a paver that’s cracked, shifted, or sunk after a heavy rain, or an edge that’s crumbling where the driveway meets the street. We keep ActiveYards-compatible pavers, edge restraints, and bedding materials in our Austin inventory, and we can usually match your existing color and pattern within a day of inspecting the site.

We’re an independent Austin remodeling contractor, not a factory branch of ActiveYards. That distinction matters because it means we install their product lines without being boxed into one supplier’s pricing. Luca Romano has been running Austin driveway and paver jobs long enough to know which ActiveYards series hold up under Texas heat and which ones need more frequent re-leveling after our clay-heavy soil shifts.

Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

A remodeled staircase with wood treads and a slim metal railing

ActiveYards splits their hardscape line into a few distinct series, and the part numbers don’t always cross over. The ActiveYards Cambridge and Coventry paver lines share a similar 3-piece modular sizing system (roughly 6×6, 6×9, and 9×9 inches), while the larger Holland series runs a different depth profile. If you’ve got a cracked or missing paver, flip over an intact one and look for the mold stamp on the underside. That stamp tells you the series, color code, and production run, which is what we need to match the color correctly.

Two compatibility gotchas worth knowing before you order parts yourself. First, ActiveYards changed their color-blending process around 2019 for certain Austin-area distributors, so a “Sahara” paver from a 2017 build will not perfectly match a “Sahara” paver produced in 2023. Sun fading has already altered your installed pavers anyway, which is why we always pull from the middle of your existing field when color-matching, not from a catalog swatch. Second, the edge restraint system on ActiveYards driveways is a flexible snap-edge in most residential installs, but some Austin builders spec’d concrete toe-beams instead. A paver that’s wandering near the driveway lip usually means the edge restraint failed or was never installed properly in the first place.

When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, here’s the honest breakdown. ActiveYards pavers are manufactured to a tighter dimensional tolerance than generic box-store pavers, and that shows up when you’re trying to weave a replacement into an existing pattern. Off-brand pavers that are “close enough” in size will leave seams that collect water, which in Austin means freeze-thaw cycles that pop the paver right back out. We stock genuine ActiveYards product and, for discontinued colors, we source through a Dallas distributor that carries back-stock runs from old production lines.

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Sunken or birdbath depressions after rain. Water pooling in low spots means the bedding layer underneath has washed out or compacted unevenly. In Austin’s clay soil, this happens faster than in sandy regions because the ground expands and contracts so aggressively between wet and dry seasons.
  • Pavers rocking underfoot or clicking when you drive over them. That’s the first sign the sand joint material has eroded. Once the joints empty out, the pavers lose lateral support and start shifting against each other.
  • Crumbling edges along the driveway border. ActiveYards edge pavers take the brunt of tire pressure when cars cut the corner. If your edge restraint wasn’t spiked deep enough, the border pavers crack first and the damage spreads inward.
  • Weeds or ant mounds pushing up between pavers. Austin fire ants love the sand joint material in paver systems. Their tunneling removes support from below, and the joints empty out faster once weeds root through the gaps.
  • Color fading that’s uneven across the surface. ActiveYards pavers are color-through, so a clean re-level rarely fixes the look if the surface layer has oxidized unevenly. This is usually when Austin owners decide to replace the full field rather than patch.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A finished basement family room with a media wall and wet bar

For full driveway replacements using ActiveYards-compatible pavers, Austin pricing runs $7,000 to $18,000, and the spread comes down to three things: total square footage, whether we’re reusing your existing gravel base or rebuilding it, and how much excavation the site needs. A standard two-car driveway around 400 square feet usually lands between $9,000 and $14,000 when we’re pulling the old pavers, re-compacting the base, and laying fresh bedding material.

Spot repairs are a different animal. Replacing a 40-square-foot section of sunken pavers, including re-screeding the sand bed and re-setting the edge restraint, typically runs $800 to $1,800. If we have to remove and haul off a failed concrete base underneath, that pushes it toward the $2,500 to $3,500 range. Every quote includes a written price before work starts, the same Relay Visibility Guarantee we run on every job: live arrival time, photo updates before and after, and a digital invoice you pay from a link.

Driveway & Paver Work in Austin Typical Installed Range
Full paver driveway replacement (ActiveYards-compatible) $7,000 – $18,000
Standard 400 sq ft two-car driveway $9,000 – $14,000
Spot repair: sunken or shifted section (up to 40 sq ft) $800 – $1,800
Spot repair with concrete base removal $2,500 – $3,500
Driveway sealing (paver surface) $250 – $700

Our workmanship warranty covers the install for a full year under the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a paver shifts, sinks, or cracks because of something we did, we come back and fix it. No argument, no re-quote.

DIY or Call Us?

If you’ve got one chipped paver on a walkway that doesn’t get vehicle traffic, sure, you can pry it out with a flat bar, add a bit of sand, and tap a replacement in. That’s a weekend project. But a driveway is different. Pavers that carry vehicle loads need a compacted base with proper thickness and a functional edge restraint, and if the base has failed, replacing the top layer is just cosmetic. You’ll be doing it again after the next rainy season.

The other reason Austin homeowners call us instead of wrestling with it themselves: paver work is heavy. A standard ActiveYards Holland paver runs about 8 pounds each, and a 400-square-foot driveway holds over four tons of pavers. It’s body work, not a handyman job. If the paver that failed is in the middle of the driveway, you’re also dealing with vehicle access the whole time you’re working around it. Call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll give you a site assessment and a written number. Measure twice, cut once, then we actually build the thing.
