ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide
We install and service ActiveYards kitchen cabinetry and hardware across Austin, with full kitchen remodels running $14,000 – $45,000 depending on cabinet count, layout changes, and countertop material. If you’ve got a drawer that won’t close, a hinge that snapped, or a cabinet box that’s separating at the seam, that’s usually the sign an ActiveYards component has hit the end of its life. Most owners discover the failure mid-cook when a soft-close mechanism gives out or a shelf bracket drops. We stock common ActiveYards replacement parts on our trucks and can match most discontinued hardware from our supplier network without forcing you into a full reorder.
One thing to know upfront: Sawyer Remodel Austin is an independent remodeling contractor. We’re not affiliated with ActiveYards, but we’ve installed, repaired, and retrofitted their cabinetry lines long enough to know which parts fail in Austin heat and which ones hold up.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards cabinets run through several series lines, and the part you need depends on which one was installed. The most common in Austin homes are the Shaker and slab-front lines, typically on steel soft-close drawer runners with 110-degree concealed hinges. Before you order anything, check the inside of the cabinet box near the top corner for a printed label. If it’s missing, measure the hinge cup diameter: 35mm is standard for most ActiveYards doors, but some older pre-2015 lines used 26mm, and those are not interchangeable. That single measurement saves the headache of ordering a hinge set that won’t seat.
OEM ActiveYards parts carry the manufacturer pattern and finish matching, but lead times can stretch four to six weeks if the series is discontinued. In many cases, a quality aftermarket hinge or slide from Salice or Blum matches the bore pattern and spring rate for less money and faster delivery. We’ll tell you when the OEM part is the right call and when an equivalent saves you two weeks and a hundred dollars. That’s the honest split.

Signs Your ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer won’t stay closed or slides open on its own. The soft-close catch inside the runner has worn down, so the glide loses its grip. Once one drawer goes, the same mechanism in adjacent drawers usually isn’t far behind.
- Door hangs crooked or scrapes the frame. The hinge plate has loosened from the cabinet box, or the hinge spring has fatigued. In Austin’s humidity swings, particleboard screw holes expand and contract a lot, which makes hinge screws back out faster than in drier climates.
- Soft-close slams shut or doesn’t catch at all. The damper piston inside the hinge has leaked its fluid. There’s no rebuilding it: the hinge is done and needs replacement.
- Drawer bottom is sagging or pulling out of the groove. ActiveYards uses a friction-fit drawer base on some lines. Over time, especially under heavy cookware load, the bottom panel flexes and slips its channel. A reglue with the right adhesive beats a new drawer box in most cases.
- Cabinet box separating at the back corner. This is structural, not hardware. Austin’s clay-soil movement can rack a cabinet run over time. If caught early we can re-square and brace. If ignored, you’re looking at face-frame separation and a full box replacement.

DIY or Call Us?
Cabinet hardware is one of the few kitchen components where DIY is genuinely reasonable. Replacing a soft-close hinge or drawer runner requires a Phillips driver, a tape measure, and patience. The risk is matching the bore pattern and spring rate correctly. If you guess wrong, the door binds or the drawer jams, and now you’ve wallowed out the screw holes in a box that’s already compromised. Hinge plates are under spring tension, but this is not garage-door territory: the worst case is a pinched finger, not a hospital visit. If you’d rather skip the trial and error, call us at (409) 834-4854. We’ll identify the exact part on the first visit and most hinge or slide swaps are done in under an hour.
Luca Romano will be the first to tell you: “Measure twice, cut once – then we actually build the thing.” That same instinct applies to ordering the right part the first time.
FAQs

ActiveYards cabinet boxes and faces typically last 15 to 25 years in Austin, but hardware like soft-close hinges and drawer slides usually needs replacement between 8 and 12 years, sooner in high-humidity kitchens without good ventilation. Doors and drawers near the dishwasher or stove fail first.
Some can. Slipped drawer bottoms, loosened hinge screws, and minor box racking are repairable. But a damper that’s leaked its fluid or a fatigued hinge spring has no serviceable parts: the whole hinge gets swapped. We’ll tell you which one you’re dealing with before any money changes hands.
Most hinge, slide, and bracket replacements take 30 to 60 minutes per cabinet in an Austin kitchen. A full cabinet run retrim or re-square can take a day. We book hardware jobs in half-day windows, not open-ended appointments.
We stock the most common 35mm soft-close hinges, 22-inch drawer slides, and shelf brackets for ActiveYards-style cabinets on every truck. Discontinued finishes and odd sizes come from our supplier network, usually within three to five business days in the Austin area. Call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll check stock while you’re on the phone.
If you’ve got an ActiveYards kitchen component that’s failed and you want it handled without the runaround, call (409) 834-4854 for a free estimate. We’ll put the price in writing before any work starts, the same way we’ve handled every job in Austin since 2005. We also carry parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone kitchens, so if your remodel mixes brands, we can match all of it.
