Cambria Bathroom Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide
A full Cambria bathroom remodel in Austin runs $9,000 to $28,000 installed, and most jobs take two to four weeks depending on scope. That price covers demolition, plumbing rough-in, waterproofing, Cambria quartz fabrication and install, fixtures, tile work, and finish trim. You’ll know you’re at the remodel point when the shower pan has a soft spot, the vanity is swollen from years of humidity, or the tile grout is cracking along the tub line and scrubbing it stopped helping a year ago.
We see it differently than a parts swap. A Cambria bathroom remodel isn’t one failed component. It’s usually a collection of small failures that finally crossed the line. The toilet flange is loose. The vanity top is chipped at the corner. The shower valve drips at the stem. Cambria quartz itself rarely fails. What fails is everything around it, and once you’re tearing out the substrate, you’re remodeling.
Here’s what to know before you spend money, and what “done right” actually means in a bathroom that has to handle Austin’s hard water, humidity swings, and limestone-heavy soil shifting under the slab.
Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria designs come in dozens of named patterns, from Britannica and Torquay to Summerhill and Ella. But the pattern isn’t what matters for a remodel. What matters is the slab thickness and the edge profile. Cambria fabricates nearly all residential tops at 2 cm or 3 cm. Most Austin bathroom vanities use 3 cm for the unsupported overhang, and shower shelves, curbs, and bench tops are cut from the same thickness so everything reads continuous.
One compatibility gotcha we hit on a regular basis: if your existing cabinets were built for a thinner granite or laminate top, switching to 3 cm Cambria changes the reveal at the drawers and can bind the top drawer against the underside of the slab. We check that on day one and usually notch or adjust the cabinet face frame rather than asking you to live with a drawer that only opens three inches.
Cambria is engineered quartz, roughly 93% natural quartz by weight with a resin binder. In an Austin bathroom, that means it won’t etch from hard-water spotting the way marble does, and it doesn’t need sealing. What it does need is a fabricator who measures within 1/16th of an inch. Saw marks, bad seams, or a top that’s 1/8th inch out of level will throw your whole remodel. We fabricate from the measured opening, not from the slab, so the seam lands where it should and the overhang is even end to end.
For the vanity itself, we commonly pair Cambria tops with KraftMaid cabinetry. The sink is usually a Kohler under-mount, and the shower trim we default to is Kohler or Moen. Sawyer Remodel Austin is an independent contractor, not a Cambria dealer, so we’re not tied to one pattern line at one price. We buy the slab you pick, at the thickness the design calls for, and the price is the price on the quote.

Signs Your Cambria Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Caulk joint pulling away at the Cambria top backsplash. Austin’s humidity swells the drywall behind the vanity, then the dry heat in summer shrinks it. The caulk releases and water gets behind the top. If you’re re-caulking twice a year, the substrate is moving and the top wasn’t shimmed to follow it.
- Soft spot in the subfloor outside the shower. This is usually the toilet wax ring failing slowly, or splash-out wicking under the tile. Once the plywood or OSB starts delaminating, the tile grout cracks and the floor flexes. That’s full subfloor repair, not a patch.
- Vanity drawers sticking only in summer. Solid wood face frames swell with humidity. If the cabinet was built tight to a 2 cm top and you want a 3 cm Cambria slab, the top drawer often binds. Cabinet adjustment or replacement is part of the remodel scope.
- Grout cracking in a horizontal line along the tub or shower base. The tub or shower pan settles slightly, or the wall framing behind the tile wasn’t flat. Re-grouting won’t hold. The real fix is addressing the movement, then re-tiling over a proper waterproof membrane.
- Shower valve drips at the handle even after replacing the cartridge. Hard water in Austin eats the valve body seat. Once the seat is pitted, a new cartridge still seeps. You’re replacing the valve, which usually means opening the wall behind it or going through the tile face.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A Cambria bathroom remodel in Austin runs $9,000 to $28,000 installed. A small guest bath with a single vanity, Cambria top, new toilet, and a tub surround sits at the lower end. A primary bath with a full walk-in shower, double Cambria vanity, heated floor, and a freestanding tub climbs toward the top of the range. The Cambria slab itself is usually $2,000 to $5,000 of the total depending on pattern, linear feet, and edge profile.
What drives the price up is demolition access, plumbing that needs moving, and waterproofing. Austin slab-on-grade homes mean shower drains often sit in concrete, and moving a drain line is a messy, honest day of work. We quote line by line: demo, framing, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tile, Cambria fabrication, fixtures, and trim. You see the number before we start. It doesn’t change at the end unless you change the scope.
Every Sawyer Remodel Austin job includes the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If something isn’t right within a year, we come back and make it right. The workmanship warranty covers our install. The Cambria slab carries its manufacturer warranty, and Kohler or Moen fixtures carry theirs. If a repair fails inside that year, the second visit is on us. No argument.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things: look under the vanity at the shut-off valves to confirm they turn without leaking, note whether the toilet rocks when you sit on it, and watch whether the shower pan holds a puddle after you stop the water. That information saves us a full diagnostic trip and helps us price faster.
What you should not do is open a shower wall, cut into a wet-area substrate, or try to pull a Cambria top off a vanity yourself. Quartz slabs are heavy, the edges are sharp, and a dropped corner means a ruined slab. Shower waterproofing is not a place to experiment. Austin homes on slab foundations hide plumbing that was roughed in decades ago under different code, and cutting blind is how you turn a $9,000 remodel into a $20,000 repair.
Luca Romano has been reading floor plans and cutting to the line for two decades, and our rule hasn’t changed: measure twice, cut once, then we actually build the thing. If you want an exact number for your bathroom, call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll schedule a free walkthrough and written estimate.
FAQs

A properly waterproofed, well-built Cambria bathroom remodel lasts 20 to 25 years before you’re likely looking at a refresh. The Cambria quartz itself lasts longer than almost any other surface in the room. The weak points over time are caulk joints, shower valves, and grout, all of which are far cheaper to address than the slab.
Sometimes. If the Cambria slab is intact and only a valve, toilet flange, or caulk joint failed, that’s a repair, not a remodel. But if water has been wicking behind the tile or under the pan long enough to damage the framing or subfloor, partial repair just hides a problem that comes back. We’ll give you an honest read on which one you have.
Most Austin bathroom remodels take two to four weeks from first day of demo to final clean. Cambria fabrication adds roughly five to seven business days between template and install. We keep the schedule visible the whole way under the Relay Visibility Guarantee, so you’ll know what’s happening each day before it happens.
We don’t stock Cambria slabs; we order them per project from the pattern and thickness you choose, which prevents waste and keeps your price honest. We do stock common remodel parts on the truck: Kohler and Moen cartridges, Schluter waterproofing trim, SpeedSet materials, and standard plumbing fittings. If we need a specialty part, we know exactly where to get it in Austin, usually next day. Call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll let you know what applies to your job.
