Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If your Mr-Glass driveway or paver section has cracked, shifted, or started sinking, we can source and install a compatible replacement. For Austin homes, you’re typically looking at $7,000 to $18,000 for a full paver driveway replacement depending on square footage and the existing base condition. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a paver that wobbles underfoot, a low spot that holds water after a rain, or a crack that’s widened past what sand could hide.
We’re Sawyer Remodel Austin. We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Mr-Glass, but we work with their paver profiles regularly. Luca Romano and our crew have pulled Mr-Glass pavers out of driveways all over the Bouldin Creek area, so when we say we know how these units sit and fail, it’s from pulling them up and laying them back down, not from reading a spec sheet.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Mr-Glass driveway pavers come in a few standard profiles. The most common in Austin are the 60mm thick units used for residential driveways, and the 80mm versions you’ll occasionally see on homes with steeper grades or heavier traffic. The 60mm paver is rated for passenger vehicles; if you’ve got an RV pad or a spot where the garbage truck turns around, the 80mm is what the job needs.
The practical compatibility question is less about the model number and more about the paver’s dimensions and finish. Mr-Glass units are typically molded in a specific size, often a 4×8 or 6×9 paver, and the chamfer profile differs between their tumbled and smooth lines. If you’re replacing a section rather than the whole driveway, the replacement paver has to match the existing size within a millimeter or two, or you’ll end up with a seam that catches every tire. We keep common Mr-Glass profiles on hand and can order the rest within a few days. For the driveway base, aftermarket options from Unilock and Belgard often mix fine with Mr-Glass pavers on the same grade, but we’ll confirm the height tolerance before you spend a dime.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Pavers rocking when you step on them. That’s usually a base layer problem. Austin’s clay soil swells and shrinks with moisture, and after a few wet-dry cycles, the base settles unevenly. A rocking paver means the sand bed under it has washed out or compacted inconsistently.
- Low spots that hold water after it rains. This is the classic Austin failure mode. Clay soil plus our seasonal rainfall means the sub-base can settle in zones. A paver driveway that holds a puddle for two days isn’t draining; it’s sitting in a depression that will get worse as water keeps working the base out.
- Wide gaps between pavers, especially near the edges. Pavers shift when the edge restraint fails. Without a solid edge holding the outside row in place, the whole field creeps. You’ll see it first at the driveway apron or along a walkway border.
- Sand eroding from the joints after heavy rain. Joint sand is the glue that locks pavers together. When it washes out, the pavers start rubbing against each other. Left alone, the rubbing rounds off the edges and turns a repairable joint problem into a full-paver replacement.
- A single cracked paver in the middle of the field. One crack usually means a point load problem, often a paver set over a void in the base. Water got under it, the base dropped, and the paver finally snapped when a tire crossed. Replacing one paver without fixing the base is a temporary fix.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Austin, a Mr-Glass driveway or paver replacement runs $7,000 to $18,000. What drives the range is mainly square footage: a single-lane driveway with a walkway sits at the lower end, while a wide double driveway with a paver patio climbs toward the top. The second biggest driver is what we find under the pavers. If the original base was thin or has lots of clay mixed in, the fix includes excavating down and rebuilding the base, not just swapping the top layer.
The number we give you includes everything: demolition and haul-off, base prep, new pavers, sand, compaction, and a final sweep with joint sand. You’ll have a written price in your hands before any work starts, and that’s the price on the invoice when we’re done. Our work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise, which means if a paver shifts or a joint opens within a year, we come back and fix it, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
Some of this work is genuinely DIY-safe. You can pull up a single cracked paver, check if the sand underneath is still level, and reset it. You can sweep fresh polymeric sand into joints that have washed out. Those are weekend jobs that don’t require special tools or much risk.
What goes wrong is when homeowners try to fix a base failure from the top. You can’t level a paver field by adding sand on top of it. If the base has settled, every paver in that zone has to come up, the base has to be re-compacted or rebuilt, and the pavers get re-laid with proper edge restraint. That’s a crew job with a plate compactor, and doing it halfway usually means you’ll be redoing it in eighteen months. If you’re not sure which problem you have, call (409) 834-4854 and Luca can walk you through what he thinks is happening before you move a single paver.
FAQs

In Austin’s climate, a properly installed Mr-Glass paver driveway should last 20 to 25 years on a good base. The pavers themselves rarely fail; what fails is the base under them, especially in neighborhoods with heavy clay soil. If your base was done right, the driveway will look worn long before it stops performing.
Yes, a single cracked paver can be swapped without replacing the whole driveway. We pop the damaged paver out, inspect the sand and base under it, reset it if needed, and drop in a new matching unit. The repair takes under an hour, and if we find a void under the paver, we’ll fix that too so the new one doesn’t crack the same way.
Most Mr-Glass driveway replacements in Austin take 3 to 5 working days from demo to final sand sweep. If the base has to be excavated and rebuilt, add a day. You’ll get a written schedule before we start, and we send photo updates as the work progresses.
We stock the common Mr-Glass profiles for driveways and patios on the truck, so most repairs happen same trip. Specialty finishes and less common sizes usually arrive in 3 to 5 business days. Call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll confirm what we can match before you commit to anything.
