PGT Kitchen Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If you have PGT products in your Austin kitchen and something’s failed or wearing out, we can match the part, price the fix honestly, and install it. A full PGT kitchen remodeling project in Austin typically runs $14,000 to $45,000, depending on whether you’re replacing cabinetry hardware and seals or rebuilding the entire kitchen around your existing PGT windows and doors. Most owners discover a problem the same way: a cabinet face that won’t sit flush anymore, a counter edge that’s delaminated, or a window over the sink that suddenly won’t lock. We stock common PGT-compatible hardware on our trucks, and for specialty parts we order direct and get you on the schedule fast.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT is best known in Austin for impact-rated windows and doors, and plenty of the homes we remodel in Bouldin Creek, Allandale, and Mueller have them. When a kitchen remodel touches those openings, the PGT model number matters. You’ll find it etched into the corner of the glass or on a sticker along the frame edge. Common lines we work around include PGT’s WinGuard and PremierVue series, plus their standard aluminum and vinyl frame windows from the 2000s onward.
The compatibility gotcha most Austin homeowners don’t know: PGT frame dimensions changed subtly across production years, so a 2012 casement window frame is not a drop-in match for a 2019 replacement sash, even when both are “36-inch” units. We measure the actual frame pocket and match by production year where we can. For hardware like PGT lock sets, hinges, and crank operators, quality aftermarket equivalents from Caldwell and Truth work well and cost 30 to 40 percent less than OEM. For glass, seals, and frame components, we recommend OEM PGT parts. The Texas heat and humidity exposes cheap seals fast, and a failed IGU (insulated glass unit) in an Austin August is not a fun discovery.
We also stock and install parts for KraftMaid and Cambria cabinetry and Silestone surfaces, so if your kitchen has a mix of brands, one call covers it.

Signs Your PGT Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Condensation or haze between the glass panes. That’s a failed seal on the insulated glass unit. Once moisture is inside, the window has lost its insulating value and the fix is glass replacement, not a repair. We see this constantly in Austin kitchens where steam from cooking and dishwashers hits the glass daily.
- A window over the sink that won’t lock or crank. Usually a stripped operator or a bent hinge. The part is cheap; forcing it isn’t. Continuing to crank a grinding window makes a $40 part into a $300 frame repair.
- Cabinet doors that sag or won’t close square. On PGT-adjacent remodels, this typically means hinge wear or the cabinet box has shifted. Hinges are a quick fix. A shifted box means the cabinet was never anchored properly to the studs, which we’ve found in homes all over Austin, especially 1990s builds.
- Counter laminate peeling at the edge near a PGT window. That’s moisture intrusion, often from condensation running off the window onto the counter. Fix the seal first, then replace the counter edge. Doing it backwards means you’ll be back in a year.
- Sticky patio doors leading from the kitchen. PGT sliding doors can bind when the rollers wear or the track gets bent. Austin’s clay soil moves, slabs settle, and that door that once slid fine now fights you. Roller replacement is straightforward; a bent track usually means full frame work.

Every quote from us is a written, line-item price before any work starts. The number you approve is the number you pay. We don’t do change orders unless you change the scope. Our work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right within a full year, we come back and make it right, in writing, on every job. Luca Romano personally reviews every kitchen quote before it goes out, because he’s the one who built Sawyer Remodel on the idea that the cut has to be right the first time.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look at the label on your PGT frame, note the model and production year, and take a photo of the failed part. That saves us a trip and gets pricing to you faster. You can also check for obvious moisture, cracked seals, or loose hardware. What you should not do is remove a PGT window sash or patio door panel alone. These units are heavy, and impact-rated glass is heavier still. A dropped sash ruins the frame and risks injury. Same rule for gas lines and electrical work near the kitchen: if you’re pulling a range or moving an island, call a licensed contractor. We’re happy to talk through what you’re seeing on the phone at (409) 834-4854 before anyone drives out. Measure twice, cut once, then we actually build the thing.
FAQs

Expect 20 to 30 years from the frame and 15 to 20 from the insulated glass seal, though Austin’s heat and sun exposure on west-facing kitchens shortens seal life. If your home is 20-plus years old and the kitchen windows face west, budget for replacement glass sooner rather than later. Call (409) 834-4854 for a free estimate and we’ll come measure.
Hardware like locks, rollers, and crank operators can almost always be repaired with a direct replacement part. Seals and glass cannot, and we’ll tell you that plainly before quoting. We’d rather lose a cheap repair job than sell you one that fails again in six months.
A smaller kitchen update runs one to two weeks. A full gut-out with window replacement, cabinetry, counters, and tile typically runs four to eight weeks in Austin, depending on permitting and material lead times. We give you a schedule in writing and send photo updates before and after each phase. Call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll walk you through a realistic timeline for your specific kitchen.
We stock common PGT hardware like lock sets, rollers, and crank operators on our trucks. Specialty items like full glass units and frame components we order directly with rush shipping, usually one to two weeks. If you need a kitchen remodel now and want to know exact lead times on your specific part, call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll check inventory while you’re on the phone.
