Silestone Home Additions & ADU: The Austin Owner’s Guide

A home addition or ADU built around Silestone surfaces in Austin typically runs $45,000 to $130,000 installed, depending on square footage, foundation work, and how much Silestone you’re putting in. We stock and install Silestone across countertops, islands, wet bars, and bathroom vanities for additions and ADUs throughout the Austin area. Most owners call us after they’ve already priced the Silestone slab and realized the real question isn’t the stone, it’s whether the addition itself gets built right around it.

The failed part scenario we see most often: a homeowner starts with a countertop order, then discovers the addition framing, electrical, or plumbing underneath can’t support what they picked. Or they build the addition, and the Silestone gets templated wrong by someone who measured once. That’s the part that fails, the integration between structure and surface.

Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Silestone is a quartz product line from Cosentino, and it comes in three finish families that behave differently in an Austin addition: polished, suede, and volcano. The polished finish is the most common and the easiest to match for a remodel. Suede is a matte texture that hides fingerprints but shows water spots faster in a bathroom ADU. Volcano has a textured, stone-like surface that reads warmer in a kitchen but costs more per square foot to template and edge.

For additions and ADUs specifically, the parts that matter most are the Silestone slab thickness (2cm or 3cm), the edge profile you choose, and whether the addition’s cabinetry is built to carry the weight. Silestone at 3cm runs roughly 12 to 15 pounds per square foot. If your addition is sitting on a pier and beam foundation, like many older homes in Bouldin Creek, that weight matters more than on a slab. You identify the right Silestone by the label on the underside of the slab or the remnant sticker from the fabricator, which lists the color code and lot number. OEM Silestone comes direct from Cosentino, but quality aftermarket quartz from Cambria or Caesarstone is a legitimate option we can source when a specific Silestone color is discontinued or backordered six months out. We’re an independent Austin contractor, not affiliated with Silestone or Cosentino, which means we’ll tell you when an aftermarket slab makes more sense than waiting on a brand.

Signs Your Silestone Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

  • Seam separation at the island or peninsula. Austin’s clay soil shifts, and an addition on a new foundation settles in the first 18 to 24 months. When the slab moves, the Silestone seam opens. You’ll see a hairline gap at the seam that catches crumbs and darkens.
  • Quartz discoloring or hazing near windows. Silestone is UV stable, but Austin’s sun through an uncoated west-facing window can dull the resin over five to seven years. It looks like a chalky film that won’t buff out with standard cleaner.
  • Chipping at the overhang or edge. A heavy pot or a chair back hits the unsupported Silestone overhang on a breakfast bar. If the fabricator skipped the corbel supports or the substrate is out of level, the stone chips at the weakest point.
  • Backsplash tiles or grout failing behind the Silestone counter. The addition settles, the counter shifts, and the grout line cracks behind the slab. It’s rarely the Silestone itself, but it means the substrate underneath was not floated level before the stone went down.
  • Water staining under the slab edge. On an ADU bathroom vanity with the suede finish, water pools at the front edge, wicks into the underside, and leaves a dark stain you can feel but not clean. That’s a fabrication issue where the underside was never sealed.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with painted cabinets and a farmhouse sink

A full home addition with Silestone countertops, an island, and a wet bar in Austin runs $45,000 to $130,000. An ADU with a small kitchenette and bathroom using Silestone lands at $90,000 to $220,000, since an ADU means a second foundation, separate utility feeds, and code-compliant egress. Countertop-only work with Silestone runs $2,000 to $6,500 installed, and a kitchen island installation runs $3,000 to $10,000 depending on slab size and support work.

What’s included in our price: the Silestone slab or remnant matched to your existing color if it’s a repair, template and fabrication, plumbing disconnect and reconnect for sinks, removal of the old surface if needed, installation, seam color matching, and a written line-item price before we touch the job. The price you approve is the price on the invoice, no change orders for surprises we should’ve caught during the template. Every Silestone addition and ADU install carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can check the seam gaps and slab leveling yourself. Run a credit card across the seam; if it catches, the slab has shifted. Look under the counter overhang with a flashlight; if there are no corbel brackets spaced every 24 to 30 inches, the support is undersized and the Silestone will chip eventually. Those are things worth knowing before you call anyone.

But do not attempt to lift, re-level, or re-fabricate Silestone yourself. A 3cm quartz slab is heavy enough to injure you if it drops or tips, and the dust from cutting Silestone is silica dust, which you don’t want in your lungs without proper water-fed tooling and respirators. The resin used to color-match a Silestone seam is also finicky in Austin’s heat, it kicks too fast above 95 degrees. Call (409) 834-4854 and we’ll measure it right the first time.
